Pregnancy, Induction, Labour & Post-Partum Acupuncture
Acupuncture offers safe, gentle support throughout pregnancy, labour, induction and the post-partum period. Treatments are tailored to each stage, working alongside your maternity care to support physical comfort, emotional wellbeing, and the body’s natural ability to adapt to change.
All treatments are provided by a qualified pregnancy-trained acupuncturist and are adapted specifically for pregnancy and after birth.
First Trimester Acupuncture (Weeks 1–12)
Early pregnancy brings major hormonal and physical shifts. Acupuncture is commonly used to support:
Pregnancy nausea and vomiting
Loss of appetite and food aversions
Fatigue and low energy
Digestive discomfort
Anxiety, stress, or emotional overwhelm
Treatments are gentle and designed with pregnancy safety in mind. Acupuncture does not replace medical care and is always used alongside your GP or midwife.
Third Trimester Acupuncture (Weeks 28–40)
In later pregnancy, acupuncture focuses on comfort, preparation for birth, and supporting optimal positioning of baby. Sessions may help with:
Pelvic, hip, or back pain
Sleep disturbance
Reflux or breathlessness
Emotional regulation as labour approaches
Moxibustion for Breech Baby
Moxibustion is a traditional acupuncture technique often used to encourage a breech baby to turn head-down.
Typically recommended between 32 and 38 weeks
You will attend a qualified acupuncture practitioner for assessment and instruction
You’ll be taught how to safely continue treatment at home
A supply of moxa sticks is provided
Moxibustion is non-invasive and is commonly used alongside standard maternity monitoring.
Acupuncture for Induction Preparation
Acupuncture for induction preparation is usually offered in the final weeks of pregnancy to support the body’s natural readiness for labour. Treatment may help to:
Support cervical ripening
Encourage hormonal balance
Reduce tension and anxiety
Promote relaxation and grounding
Induction acupuncture does not force labour and is always adapted to your individual pregnancy and gestational stage.
Labour & Post-Partum Acupuncture Support
Labour support (where appropriate):
Pain relief and relaxation
Emotional support during early or prolonged labour
Post-partum acupuncture may support:
Recovery after birth or C-section
Fatigue and depleted energy
Hormonal rebalancing
Mood and emotional wellbeing
Physical tension after pregnancy and labour
A Gentle Note on Safety
Acupuncture during pregnancy and post-partum is widely used and considered safe when provided by a properly trained practitioner. Treatments are adapted for each stage of pregnancy, with specific points avoided where appropriate.
Acupuncture is designed to support, not replace, medical or midwifery care. You’ll always be encouraged to continue routine maternity appointments and follow the advice of your healthcare team.
